Behavior Support Specialist

Basic Function: This individual is responsible for the development and monitoring of Behavioral Support Plans to support individuals with an Intellectual Disability live self- directed lives. The Behavior Support Specialist will model, teach, and support appropriate behavioral interventions for consumers to caregivers, program staff, and family members. The Behavior Specialist has a clinical role designed to support consistent and positive behavior supports strategies implemented by the program staff and services team to support the positive social, behavioral, and daily living skill development of consumers. The Behavior Supports Specialist Works closely and proactively with team members.

Specific duties and Responsibilities:

Creates and promotes a positive culture centered on building self-directed lives with the people we serve.

Develops and maintains Behavioral Support Plans for people in the assigned caseload based upon needs of individuals and team input. The Behavioral Support Plan will be person-centered and utilize best positive practices.

Collaborates with the individual, his/her family and team in order to develop positive interventions to address specific behaviors. Conducts training related to the implementation of behavior support plans for the individual, family members, staff, and caretakers.

Promotes a positive working relationship with all employees, teams, outside agencies, and families.

Conducts Functional Behavioral Assessments when appropriate, for individuals supported.

Provides services in various settings (family homes, community, agency, day program, etc.)

Essential Functions:

  • Must possess an updated, valid Driver’s License.
  • Must have own vehicle to travel to agency sites within Lackawanna, Luzerne, and Susquehanna Counties.
  • Must be able to keep plans, records, and tracking forms up-to-date.

Job Specifications:

  • Must hold a bachelor’s degree in Social Work or a related human service field.

Position: General Warehouse Worker

GENERAL SUMMARY: Primarily works in the processing area supporting functions by handling a variety of donated and salvage goods in a safe and expeditious manner. Assists truck driver by loading truck and cleaning up donation sites.

General Warehouse Worker - Locations*

Position: Residential Site Supervisor

Basic Function: The Residential Site Supervisor is responsible for the complete operation of the assigned site in a manner that best meets the rehabilitation objective of Goodwill and the residents.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains an appropriate and healthy home by providing a sympathetic and understanding environment for dealing with resident’s problems, behaviors, likes, dislikes, etc. Develops and implements all facets of living as close to a life of inclusion as possible.
  • Supports staff’s needs in providing all residents with a comfortable, and harmonious living environment.
  • Participates as an Interdisciplinary Team Member in planning, organizing, coordinating, and implementing residents Individual Service Plan.
  • Prepares first draft of Quarterly and Annual Reviews and submit to the Program Specialist in a timely manner.
  • Formalizes and implements a plan for each individual’s goal plans in accordance with ISP’s.
  • Assures all programmatic documentation is completed in accordance with Goodwill policy and procedures and DPW regulations for Community Residential Facilities.
  • Develops and implements meaningful recreational, social and leisure activities within the community for each resident.
  • Maintains administrative and clinical records as required by Goodwill Policies and Procedures and express all orders in a clear and concise manner to Program Specialist or designee, both orally and written.
  • Prepares Household and Petty Cash Financials monthly. Balances Residential Financial Logs as transactions are conducted.
  • Plans menus in advance, follows specific guidelines for restricted diets, as prescribed by physicians.
  • Assists Manager in training, monitoring, assigning and evaluating the work performance of Residential Program Workers.

Position: Direct Support Professional (DSP)

Supervisor: DSP Site Supervisor

Basic Function: Goodwill of NEPA operates thirteen (13) community living arrangements (CLAs) throughout Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties. The DSP is responsible for assisting in promoting the rehabilitative objectives of the program within these CLAs.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implements all facets of living as close to “normalization principal” as possible.
  • Maintains an appropriate and wholesome environment within the home for all residents.
  • Provides an atmosphere free of tension and strain so all residents can live comfortably and harmoniously.
  • Assists residents in reaching the highest level of independence in all areas of living as possible.
  • Implements goal plans in accordance with Individual Service Plans (ISPs).
  • Assists residents in enhancing activities of daily living (ADL) skills.
  • Assures programmatic documentation is complete and in accordance with agency policy and procedure and DPW regulation for community living arrangements for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
  • Conducts a variety of recreational, social and leisure activities for constructive use of time by residents.

  • Monitors and documents the dispensation of all prescribed and any over the counter medications in accordance with Medication Training and agency policy.

Direct Support Professional (DSP) - Locations*

Position: Employment Specialist – Small Group Employment

Supervisor: Director of Employment Services

Basic Function: The Employment Specialist teaches and models job duties to support a consumer to learn job specific tasks in accordance with job tasks/employer’s specifications Additionally, the Employment Specialist teaches and models all appropriate social and work behavior skills to support a consumer to become ready for community based competitive employment. The Employment Specialist completes vocational assessments, provides daily and quarterly notes, and participates in meetings to support consumer goals.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs task analysis of jobs targeted for the consumer.
  • Teaches and models job specific tasks based on task analysis of job duties.
  • Teaches and models pro social and work behaviors to support consumer being successful in work setting.
  • Utilizes creative problem-solving skills and behavior management strategies to support consumer learning new tasks and pro-social behaviors.
  • Must be familiar with and follow consumer ISP.
  • Advocates for consumer to be supported in work setting.
  • Completes daily and quarterly notes for each consumer as required.
  • Treats all consumers and coworkers with dignity and respect.
  • Collects data and assesses consumer assets, preferences, and limitations in work performance.
  • Accurately completes all employee paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Attends all (24 hours annually) trainings provided by and pursue/attend professional development trainings to maintain CESP Certificate.

Job Specifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in human service field preferred. Associates Degree in human service field will be considered with extensive work experience in vocational rehabilitation and/or industry.
  • A minimum of one-year work experience with disabled and/or disadvantaged individuals is preferred.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week. Work hours will be contingent on the needs, abilities, and work schedule of each program participant. Work hours will change depending upon the needs and schedules of program participants. Night and weekend work may be necessary.

Employment Specialist – Small Group Employment - Locations*

Position: Employment Specialist Job Coach

Supervisor: Director of Employment Services

Basic Function: The Employment Specialist Job Coach assists consumers in exploring vocational areas of interest, assessing consumers’ vocational abilities, securing and maintaining employment that aligns with the consumers’ vocational goals, and documenting all efforts made on behalf of the consumer. The Employment Specialist Job Coach is a multi-faceted, dynamic role, involving a wide array of duties, including but not limited to, teaching social skills, performing task analysis, representing Goodwill in the community, acting as a liaison between consumers and employers, and providing on the job training for consumers.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support consumers in identifying vocational interests and potential jobs in the community.
  • Develop potential job opportunities in the community using networking and outreach.
  • Performs task analysis of jobs and, if needed, ask employer for appropriate accommodations.
  • Advocate for consumer getting the targeted job and educating the employer about Goodwill Services and the strengths of the consumer. Help the employer understand how the consumer is a “good fit” for their business.
  • Assist the consumer in learning the tasks and vital functions of their position using on-the-job training, task analysis, prompting and redirection.
  • Collect data and assess, along with the consumer and employer, progress made in learning new job (task acquisition) at regular intervals.
  • Utilize problem solving skills and behavior management strategies to support task acquisition and pro-social behaviors.
  • Assist consumer with integrating into the work culture setting, establishing relationships with employer and co-workers, and developing natural supports.
  • Act as a liaison between consumer, employer, and Goodwill.
  • Ensure that both the needs of the business and consumer are being met.
  • Through use of data, begin to fade services and support increasing independence of consumer.

Employment Specialist Job Coach - Locations*

Position: Retail Store Manager

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides input into the store’s annual expense and revenue budget and monitors store’s performance throughout the year. Uses the approved budget to govern the operation and to make adjustments for significant variations.
  • In conjunction with the Retail Director, helps devise and implement plans and programs to create and maintain adequate production and donation plans that provide the inventory necessary to meet budgetary goals.
  • Interviews job applicants and makes recommendations for hiring to the Retail Director.
  • Trains and supervises all store employees, providing every employee with clear job responsibilities and expectations in accordance with Goodwill’s policies and procedures. Provides feedback on employee performance and attendance, addresses concerns, and administers performance discussions as needed. Ensures that the store opens and closes on time and is properly staffed at all times.
  • Develops, implements and assesses store sales, promotions and other special events.
  • Provides feedback to Retail Director on community promotions.
  • Ensures that safe working conditions and work practices are maintained. Maintains attractive, neat and convenient store layout.
  • Compiles and utilizes information regarding customer counts, sales, etc. to make decisions and develops plans of action for the store.
  • Ensures that all reporting requirements are completed accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Receives and inspects incoming stock, supervises checkouts and stock transfers. Plans layout and display of materials. Communicates stock needs to Retail Director.
  • Represents Goodwill in a positive manner, ensuring donors, customers, etc. are provided with an exemplary level of customer service to ensure repeat donations and sales.
  • Attends Manager’s meeting and training programs as required. Maintains effective communication with Retail Director regarding any and all store related matters.

Assistant Store Manager

Basic Function: The Assistant Store Manager works, in conjunction with the Store Manager, to execute store operational objectives as they relate to supporting the agency’s goals and mission programs. He or she assists in the responsibilities for decision making in the areas involving customers, operational issues, priority setting, staff scheduling, store employee training and performance appraisals, compliance with company policies and procedures, and assisting the Retail Director with any and all areas of the business. In the absence of or at the direction of the Store Manager, the Assistant will assume all the duties and responsibilities of the Store Manager.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist manager to:

  • Devise and implement plans and programs to create and maintain adequate production and donation plans that provide the inventory necessary to meet budgetary goals.

  • Processes donations in variety of departments. Designates what is saleable; prices unmarked items, size clothing and display other items on sales floor.
  • Rotates merchandise already on display by following the schedule of rotation, for each department. Keeps departments well stocked.
  • Maintains a presentable sales floor by keeping rack items neatly hung, bins straightened, wares organized, displays attractive, etc. Dusts, sweeps and performs other cleaning duties as necessary.
  • Handles cash register duties as assigned.
  • Promotes customer satisfaction. Maintains a pleasant and polite manner. Presents neat and clean appearance.
  • Assists customers in location and selection of merchandise. Informs customers of store policies and procedures.

Store Clerk/Processor (Key Holder) - Locations*

Position: Truck Driver

Supervisor: Retail Director

Basic Function: As part of the Transportation Department, the position services the drop of Boxes for store sites. Make pick-ups from incoming donations, to deliver store shipments and to maintain an awareness of the working condition of the vehicles at your disposal. Unload donations at store sites, remove large trash items that cannot fit into the dumpster and unload these items at the landfill. Transport salvage from store sites to the warehouse to be baled. Service special house calls as needed or directed. Collected merchandise belongs to Goodwill and must be taken to either the store or the warehouse as directed. To perform basic preventive maintenance to the vehicle as in checking/adding fluids, etc.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To transport the donated goods inventory (both saleable and not saleable) in the most efficient and effective manner possible from one location to another.
  • Operate the agency vehicle in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with the guidelines of the Department of Motor Vehicles and agency policy.
  • Complete a daily time log, of arrival and departure, record mileage, complete operational checklist and record repairs needed. Also, record donation levels.
  • Perform daily maintenance including cleanliness of the vehicle. Report any mechanical concerns immediately to the Supervisor.
  • Perform material handling responsibilities including loading and unloading agency vehicle using proper safety procedures and techniques determined by the agency.
  • Promote a positive image if the agency at all times, especially in dealing with the public.
  • Will help process and move goods while at the store as requested or directed.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

  • Must have a valid, updated PA Driver’s License to able to drive.
  • Must be able to meet physical components of the position, including lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs., etc.

Job Specifications:

  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent and “clean” driving record
  • Must be able to represent Goodwill in a positive manner having a strong work ethic; good written and oral skills.

Hours: 40 hours per week. Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
